The Lock-Up

I have ‘stuff’ in a lock-up in Cardiff. It could go the way of Notre Dame for all I care. My slip of sentimentality has sped off on someone’s skateboard.

Here's a pre-COVID story relating to it...

I keyed my password into the electronic doorman and whistled The Mob Song from Beauty and the Beast as I waited for the doors to slide.

I grabbed a trolley, and a memory shattered the lyrics reminding me of impending danger. For hundreds of years, anthropologists have not figured out how to prevent human beings from smashing these things into their Achilles heel.

I type the passcode in so I can leave.

I load the shelf unit onto the trolley.

I type the passcode so I can enter.

I open the exterior lift doors.

I open the interior lift cage.

I enter with my trolley.

I leave.

I close the interior lift cage.

I close the exterior door.

I press #1.

I walk up a flight of stairs.

I open the exterior lift doors.

I open the interior lift cage.

I remove my trolley.

I close the interior lift cage.

I close the exterior door.

I stop.

I think.

“This is insane. There must be a short cut. What’s a short cut, here?”

After depositing the shelf unit into my lockup next to an old clock, two purple deck chairs, and a bright red vibrator, I pull the trolley back towards the lift knowing I have to go through the same old rigamarole, thinking of a way to bypass the system.

Is this man for real?

Fuck this shit.

There must be a way to bypass the system.

Tony from the UK and Lulu from America have tried to bypass the system. It doesn’t work. Today, they both joined the system instead of rebelling against it. Today, they joined The STRIVE Method for Addictions Group Coaching program starting January 31. If you want to join them and avoid that deadly hack to your Achilles heel, then follow the blue line.
