I get it.
Lowering your expectations is a cracking way to mitigate the failure fall. 
Define ‘lowering your expectations.’
Let’s say you set a goal of making it to 365-days without drinking alcohol, and you drink every day for the proceeding month, then perhaps you need to lower your expectations.
What if you drink after 150 days, and then again, after 210 days, each time, for a day or two. Are those blemishes on your copybook a reason to lower your expectations?
Whenever this question emerges in your mind, ask yourself this question.
“Who is setting these expectations? Me or Resistance?”
