"Every time you come back to presence, it's kind of like going to the gym, like one flex of your muscle. It's like the magic is in every time you think you failed. It's like “No, no, that's the magic”. That means that you're back where you're supposed to be. So, and I think people can beat themselves up about how not present they are, but that's where the gold is".

"If you're in pain, you resonate with other people that are in pain. So as you're leveraging yourself out of it, it's really good to be around people who are going to help you do that".

"Talking to people about suffering is a powerful thing. It is a deep way to connect, and compassion comes into that".

"‘Are you going to continue to play the old programs that society has told you to play? And are you going to sit there smashing tins and watching whatever it is? Or are you going to wake the fuck up and realise that, actually, being a man is about being strong, but within that, it's about being vulnerable?".

"We don't live from the outside in. We live from what's happening internally".

About the Guest

For the past two years, Sam Goldfinch has been writing about thriving without alcohol on his site, unaddicted.co.uk. Having spent years under the spell of alcohol, he understands the feeling of helplessness that can come from addiction. Thankfully, a series of life circumstances, the words of others and seemingly disconnected events conspired to finally set him free. This inspired him to put his words on paper in the hope that he may help a few people along the way.

After returning to the UK after eight years of living abroad, he is continuing his career as a part-time English teacher and Holistic Health Coach. The idea that his story and outlook could help even a few to realise that leaving alcohol behind is a cool and subversive choice is one of his main drives.

Six months ago, he started his new coaching venture ‘The Wild Way’. After almost five years free from alcohol, Sam felt ready to start his own business, built upon all he had learnt from stopping drinking. The Wild Way provides a way for people to work on all aspects of health, from food and movement to sleep and finding some quiet in our lives.

Despite leaving alcohol behind, once the ‘Pink Clouds’ had passed, Sam felt there were aspects to his health that he wanted to improve and optimise to support his future. If you see yourself in this pattern and you’re interested in finding out a little more, head over to Wildway.co and take a look!

Please come and follow him on Instagram @unaddictedblog and @wildwaycoaching. He’d love to hear from you! You can also email him at sam@wildway.co.
